Keep parties out of local politics

Two years ago, the Republican committeemen of Schaumburg endorsed, fund raised and distributed literature for a number of candidates in the local nonpartisan election, specifically for Schaumburg Township District library trustee, and for School District 211 trustee.

Again, for this April 2017 nonpartisan election, the local Republican Party and their committeeman are sponsoring, fundraising and distributing literature for a trustee for Schaumburg Township library and for three candidates for School District 211 trustee.

I am a Schaumburg Township library trustee, but I am not running again after serving 40 years. For 36 years, Bob Lyons and I worked together to keep these elections nonpartisan by informing both the Republican and Democratic committeemen that we did not want the political parties involved in these elections. They used to comply.
