Palatine Kiwanis Club Returns to Lead local Street Cleanup Project
On a recent Saturday morning a group of 22 volunteers organized by the Kiwanis Club of Palatine braved some very threatening weather to undertake a clean up project along the west side of the Route 53 between Dundee and Rand Roads. The Club has completed service projects like this in the past but came back this year after a Covid-related hiatus. The dedicated volunteers consisted of members of the club along with student members of its Builders Club at Walter Sundling Junior High School and the Palatine Chapter of the Clean Up-Give Back organization that supplied the vests, grabbers and large bags used to amass 37 bags of paper, plastic, glass and other garbage collected along the route. Upon project completion, the Village of Palatine Public Works Department picked up and disposed of the bags. The Kiwanians included Project Chair, Mary Neilson, and Club President, Brent Anderson. Present from the Builders Club were Faculty Advisor and teacher, Allison Nemmer and School Principal, Jason Dietz. The Clean Up-Give Back contingent was led by Co-President Gale Padmanban. Neilson said that she was thrilled that so many people pitched in and worked very hard despite the snowy forecast to make the project a success.
