An all-around tiring day for Kominowski
Having just competed the night before, Alex Kominowski admitted that he was a bit tired during Saturday's Fred Dennis Invite.
He simply fought through that fatigue and won the all-around with a 45.650, helping Addison Trail to a boys gymnastics third-place finish with a 123.9.
"Yeah, I was a little tired to be honest, but I got through it," he said. "My high bar wasn't the best, but I pushed through it and got second so that was fun."
His performances on floor exercise, vault and parallel bar were also a lot of fun as he claimed first place on all three events.
"I've always been a tumbling guy, so flipping on floor and vault is usually pretty good for me," he said. "I had some little corrections that my coaches gave me beforehand, which were really helpful, so that was good."
Being at home also provided a nice lift.
"It's kind of comforting being here with not so many teams and not much intimidation," he said. "I felt like we were a little more together as a team and bonded a little more and we did the best that we could."
The Blazers were finally at full strength, which was key.
"It was the first time we had our full roster together with guys coming back from injuries," Addison Trail coach Mike Galfi said. "It was nice to have those guys come back. We held them back yesterday and wanted to give them one meet this week today and they helped us get a higher score."
Lake Park claimed the team championship, edging runner-up Conant 125.55 to 124.1.
Luke Badger and Louie Ranieri finished second and third, respectively, in the all-around with a 45.25 and 41.0. Badger also won the high bar.
"It's really exciting to have success, especially with the conference meet only two weeks away," Lancers coach Tim Whelan said. "We're always looking forward to adding more points on and we're a young team and just hoping to keep competing and to finish strong."
The Lancers prevailed despite not being at full strength.
"We were still out a few guys so we were missing some points," Whelan said. "We're still hoping to get a 130. We think we might be able to get there next week."
Vince Milano won still rings to lead Glenbard East to fourth place with a 119.1.
Andy Garcia added a third-place finish on floor and Sean O'Hara and Ankush Kecht were the top all-arounders for the Rams.
The runner-up Cougars received Top 3 finishes from Cole Aykroid, Oscar Matsno, Noah Davis and Puth Patel.
Hersey's Nate Campbell placed second on the pommel horse and third on high bar.
