South Elgin officers recognized for saving resident's life
Two South Elgin police officers received an award from the village for saving a resident's life last month.
Officers Shane Christenson and Andrew Nelson responded to a 911 call hang-up on Nov. 13 from a home in the village. They kicked in the door of the home and helped a person who was attempting suicide. The person was taken to the hospital and survived.
"The quick actions by officers Nelson and Christenson reflect credit upon themselves and the village of South Elgin," Police Chief Jerry Krawczyk said.
"This village owes our officers a debt of gratitude" for saving the resident's life, Trustee Scott Richmond said.
Nelson, a nearly 21-year-veteran of the force, said this was a particularly intense call. "I became emotional afterward," he said.
