Veteran Island Lake cop promoted

A veteran Island Lake police officer has been promoted to sergeant. Officer James Gainer was given his stripes at a village board meeting last week. He's served in the department as a patrol officer for 14 years. He has received several lifesaving awards and a medal for valor stemming from his involvement in a 2016 standoff with a suicidal, armed man that ended without any injuries.
