Warrenville apartment fire displaces residents

A fire tore through a Warrenville apartment complex Sunday night, leaving several units uninhabitable, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to reports of heavy flames and smoke coming from an apartment building on the 29W000 block of Country Ridge Drive at about 10 p.m. Sunday night, according to the Warrenville fire protection district.

Officials said there were still people inside while the blaze was spreading through the building, so first-responders called for assistance and quickly began attacking the fire in six apartment units near where the fire started.

Most of the flames were under control and the remaining occupants were removed within about half an hour, but heavy smoke damage left the building uninhabitable, officials said.

No one was injured, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation, authorities said.
