Girls volleyball: Carmel collects win against Lake Zurich

Annie Bart, Mya Mainzer and Eileen Tarcha led a balanced attack with 6 kills apiece, and Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team defeated visiting Lake Zurich 25-12, 25-21 in nonconference action on Tuesday night.

Alyssa Dellert added 4 kills for the Corsairs (2-2). Kaitlyn Donton and Patti Needham dished out 9 and 8 assists, respectively, and Jolina Moisio contributed 11 digs and 5 assists. Tayah Farris had 2 kills and 2 blocks.

"We were much more balanced tonight," Carmel coach Dave Pazely said. "Our setters did a great job committing to defense first tonight which we emphasized in practice all day on Monday. With players like Jolina Moisio and Eileen Tarcha, who can put up an accurate second ball, the setters don't have to worry about the team being 'out of system' and explains why our libero (Moisio) also had 5 assists. We also emphasized hitting efficiency and we executed that tonight by hitting .373 on only 6 hitting errors. We are going to need to keep building on that as we take on Lakes this Thursday."

New Trier d. Stevenson: Sophie Sorenson had 10 kills, but the Patriots lost a 24-19, 26-24 decision in nonconference action.

Stevenson (6-2), which won the Crosstown Classic over the weekend, also got 4 aces from Abby Keevins. Makayla Uremovich and Lily Cozzi added 2 kills apiece, and Grace Tully delivered 15 assists.

Warren d. Niles North: Dana Lundtveit pounded 8 kills, and the Blue Devils won again, 25-17, 25-22 in a nonconference match.

Warren (8-1) also got contributions from Ora Cohen (4 kills 2 blocks), Emma Fitzgibbons (3 kills, 3 blocks), Ella White (2 kills), Alayna Malec (1 kill, 2 blocks), Abby Berkowicz (6 assists), Kayla Klemz (9 assists), Amanda Howe (7 digs), Ellie Columbus (6 digs) and Olivia Schostak (4 digs).

Conant d. Mundelein: The Mustangs dropped the nonconference match 25-21, 25-20.

Brianna Martin had 4 kills and 3 blocks for Mundelein (3-4), which also got 3 kills apiece from Alexis Naddy and Taylor Heath. Faith Krabbe contributed 6 assists and 2 blocks.
