Local League of Women Voters expands board in anticipation of elections
Gearing up for what it called an "ambitious agenda" in light of 2022 midterm and 2023 consolidated elections, the League of Women Voters of Glenview-Glencoe recently installed an expanded board of directors.
Sue Swaringen and Kris Iida were each elected as second-term president and secretary, respectively, according to a July 17 League release. They join current Vice President Sue Gregory and Treasurer Karen Cunningham as officers.
Kate McMahon Gazda and Eileen Ribordy were elected as directors each for a two-year term; Past-President Ann Yoshida was appointed to a one-year term. They'll join current directors Tara Call, Sarah Hill and Laura Sailer.
The board of directors was expanded by two seats.
The League's statement indicated plans for "robust voter education and turnout programs." It said affordable housing, gun violence prevention and reproductive health rights also are top priorities.
The League also plans a "Civics Project," in which it will focus on how residents are able to interact with various public boards in Glenview, Northbrook and Glencoe.
"The goal is to rebuild trust and public engagement in the democratic process," the release said.
The League of Women Voters of Glenview-Glencoe also is seeking members 16 years and older. For information, visit www.lwvglens.org.
