Argentinian artist Paloma Marques working in Winfield studio before May 5 exhibit opening

Paloma Marquez of Buenos Aires, Argentina is currently being hosted by Tim Somers of Somers Productions Inc. in Winfield while she prepares for her show "Synergy of a Multitude."

It is a series of thought-provoking paintings which will be on display at Gallery K on Broadway in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The show opens May 5 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Of her paintings, Somers says, "She has the uncanny ability to exemplify the tensions, burdens and victories of human beings everywhere. Her message is universal."

For the past 15 years, she has been exhibiting in festivals, shows, galleries, special events and painting murals. Her first show in the U.S. was at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin-American Art in Boston. An charity auction of her work was conducted by Christie's Auction House. Subsequent to that she has been invited and accepted to participate in many other exhibits, including La Rochelle, France, the U.S. and cities in Argentina. Paloma Marquez grew up in Chilecito, La Rioja, Argentina where her first drawings and compositions were created. In this arid city surrounded by mountains, she studied music, beekeeping and audited visual arts classes at the local university evenings for two years while in high school. She was also exposed to contemporary art by observing her mother, artist Alicia Alba. After finishing high school, she moved to Buenos Aires to earn a Degree in Audiovisual Arts at the National University of Lanús. She has studied under and worked with some of Argentina's most prominent artists. She holds a Masters of Electronic Arts degree.

As time permits before she leaves the Midwest, Paloma hopes to conduct some mentoring sessions with young artists. Schools or art organizations for teens who are interested may contact Tim Somers with the information provided at the end of this article.
