Rolling Meadows man sent to prison for sexually abusing girl

A 39-year-old Rolling Meadows man pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.
Joel Bautista-Cortez was sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life as a condition of his plea, prosecutors said. The judge also ordered Bautista-Cortez to pay $1,179 in fines.
According to prosecutors, a social worker at the victim's elementary school contacted police in May 2018 and told them the girl informed her she was being sexually abused by Bautista-Cortez beginning three months earlier.
Bautista-Cortez received credit for 309 days in custody. He must complete at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
