Rolling Meadows man charged with sexually abusing girl

A Rolling Meadows man accused of sexually abusing a young girl was ordered held on $500,000 bail Wednesday.

Joel Bautista-Cortez, 38, is charged with the predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 9-year-old girl. If convicted of the most serious charge, Bautista-Cortez faces up to 30 years in prison.

A social worker at the 9-year-old's school contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services on May 29 indicating the girl had disclosed sexual abuse beginning about three months earlier, Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Ryan DeGroot said. The prosecutor cited three incidents of abuse.

Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie ordered Bautista-Cortez have no contact with the accuser or any minor children if he goes free on bond. She also ordered him to submit to GPS monitoring if released.

Bautista-Cortez is scheduled to return to court June 28.
