Singers bring a wee bit of Ireland to Vernon Area Library
The audience clapped and sang along as the Banna Irish Duo performed Irish songs during the "Senior Series: Favorite Irish Tunes" program Monday at the Vernon Area Public Library in Vernon Hills.
More than 40 music lovers attended the performance by Mary Barrett of West Dundee and Paul Wood of Mount Prospect.
"We are hoping to get people enthused about St. Patrick's Day. We have a lot of fun singalong songs, and it is a fun hour of Irish culture and music," Barrett said. "We tell stories about Ireland and talk about the fun we had when were traveling in Ireland - stories that relate to the songs."
The duo entertained the crowd with songs such as "McNamara's Band," "When Irish Eyes are Smiling," "Whiskey in the Jar" and "Star of the County Down."
