Taste of Roselle brings community together
Roselle Mayor Andy Maglio was around for the very first Taste of Roselle 37 years ago.
He wasn't the mayor back then, of course, but he knows one thing for certain: the fest keeps getting better and better each year.
“It brings so much of our community together,” Maglio said. “It's unbelievable, it's great to see.”
Fest fans can find out for themselves because the Taste opens at 6 p.m. Friday and runs through Sunday along Main Street, between Roselle Road and Park Street.
The celebration offers food from a variety of vendors, including local restaurants such as Italian Pizza Kitchen and Sammy's Mexican Grill & Bar.
There will also be crafts, bingo, and a carnival for kids. And there will be a variety of performances all three nights, including Chicago cover band Sealed with a Kiss on Friday night.
But this year, the Taste also will offer something a bit different. The opening ceremony will feature American Legion Post 1084 marching down Main Street with the Roselle colors, while the Lake Park High School band follows while playing the national anthem.
“I can't wait for the beginning ceremony because it's something that we've never done, involving the whole high school marching band,” Maglio said.
Admission to the fest grounds is free.
Portions of other proceeds are donated to community projects. Since 1982, the Taste of Roselle Commission has donated more than $325,000.
“The neatest thing about all of this is, at the end of the day, when all is said and done, they donate back to the community,” Maglio said.
