Schaumburg firefighters shop for families in need

The Schaumburg Firefighters Benevolent Association sponsored its 31st annual "Christmas Shopping for Families In Need" at Target on Dec. 4.

This annual event began in 1990 when two firefighters spent $400 to shop for a single mom, her son and a local senior.

This year, Schaumburg Professional Firefighters Association Local 4092 firefighters and their families adopted 10 families from Schaumburg Township and purchased more than $5,600 in gifts, including clothing, toys, games, books, bedding and gift cards.

Earlier this week, companies from Fire Station 51 delivered the wrapped presents to the Township to be donated to the adopted families for the holidays.

They also donated $5,000 to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry to restock their shelves after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thank you, Schaumburg firefighters, for more than 30 years of giving back to the community through holiday generosity.
