CLC celebrates engineering on Feb. 21

College of Lake County (CLC) is highlighting its engineering program on Tuesday, Feb. 21 with a lineup of events in honor of Engineering Week.

The events, which begin at 7 p.m. at the Grayslake Campus and are all in room T120, include:

7-7:30 p.m., CLC Engineering Program Information Session. Attend to learn more about the engineering and computer science transfer program at CLC. An overview of the engineering program, including academics, extracurricular activities and information on guaranteed admission programs will be presented.

7:30-8 p.m., Baxter Innovation Lab open house. Explore CLC's engineering makerspace to learn more about the technology available to all students. Chat with CLC and Northern Illinois University (NIU) engineering faculty to learn more about their engineering programs.

8 p.m., Dr. Purushothaman Damodaran, NIU engineering professor will speak. Dr. Damodaran will present on the importance of engineering research and how it is typically done. He will share his industrial engineering expertise and provide optimization examples from manufacturing, healthcare and warehousing.

"Engineering Week is a great opportunity to celebrate engineers and all they do for society, as well as engineering students," said Engineering Instructor Rob Twardock. "We have some nice events planned and welcome the public to attend."

CLC is also hosting events in March and April that celebrate creative minds. Make-a-Thon is Saturday, March 11 at CLC's Advanced Technology Center (ATC). This one-day coding and rapid prototyping workshop is for makers grade 5 to adults ending with a team competition. Mentoring and technical assistance will be provided by CLC engineering interns.

All the Make-a-Thon projects will be showcased at Maker Faire Lake County on Saturday, April 15 at CLC's Grayslake Campus. Maker Faire celebrates the multifaceted fields of making, perfect for everyone in Lake County-from engineers to scientists to crafters. The event also showcases the Baxter Innovation Lab.

CLC is also hosting Open Houses at all three campuses and the Advanced Technology Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Open Houses are free and open to the public to drop in at any time.
