Girls volleyball: Libertyville celebrates O'Brien milestone, then wins

Before hosting St. Viator on Thursday night, Libertyville's girls volleyball team celebrated Peyton O'Brien reaching 1,000 career assists last month. The Wildcats then went out and captured a 25-17, 25-15 win in nonconference action.

O'Brien, a junior setter, dished out 19 assists, as Libertyville improved to 18-6. Ella Schaffnit paced the Wildcats with 10 kills, while Kellie Hopper added nine. Libertyville also received 7 digs from Olivia Sauers, 6 digs and 2 kills from Alannah Howell, and 2 aces from Claire Taranowski.

Lakes d. Round Lake: The visiting Eagles won 25-8, 25-23 to hike their record to 13-7 and 3-0 in the Northern Lake County Conference, as Kelli Rettig had 6 kills and 11 digs.

Lakes' other contributors included Ashley Smith (5 kills, 8 digs), Devinn Bell (5 kills, 20 assists), Allison Stover (8 digs), Molly Reuland (2 kills), Megan Maloney (2 kills), Emma Martinez (2 kills), Tea Leonora (7 kills, 2 aces) and Amelia Plohg (4 aces, 1 dig).

Antioch d. Grayslake North: The host Sequoits rallied to win 18-25, 25-19, 25-17 to improve to 21-5 and 4-0 in the Northern Lake County Conference.

Grayslake North (14-10, 2-2) was led by Alyssa Gerzel with 14 kills, while Jessica Pozezinski added 7 kills. Jayden Curtis and Faith Standerski had 14 and 13 digs, respectively, and Lindsey Diep delivered 13 assists.

Niles North d. Vernon Hills: The host Cougars lost 25-15, 23-25, 25-21 in Central Suburban League North Division action, halting their winning streak at five matches.

Vernon Hills (13-10, 2-4) received 3 kills apiece from Daniella Jarrell, Marta Glyvka, Veronica Gawin, Victoria Lukyan and Alexa Cieslinski.

Jacklyn Self and Abby Wisniewski each had 8 digs, and Elli Amjadi served 2 aces.

Loyola d. Lake Zurich: The Bears lost the nonconference match 25-16, 25-17, despite 7 kills from Chelsea Williams.

Leah Salit dished out 14 assists for the Bears, and Sophia Arias served 2 aces.
