Northwest Choral Society celebrates golden anniversary

Singing, member service recognition, a silent auction and raffle, memorabilia and dinner were all on the agenda when the Northwest Choral Society celebrated its golden anniversary April 29 at Meridian Banquet Center in Rolling Meadows.

Ten former members of the chorus returned to join in the celebration, including past presidents Glen and Judy Richardson, who now reside in La Porte, Indiana. Tim Kjos, an executive with Kjos Music Company (currently located in San Diego, California), and the son of Neil A. Kjos, Jr., one of the Northwest Choral Society's founding members when the music company was in Park Ridge, sent his congratulations to the chorus on achieving the 50-year milestone.

Current chorus president Penny Perles recognized the service of chorus members with the presentation of special Northwest Choral Society anniversary pins or certificates. Jane Peterson of Lake Barrington, Barbara Stewart of Chicago and Kathy Lombardino of Chicago received 40-year service pins. Other chorus members were acknowledged for service between five and 35 years.

Northwest Choral Society Artist Director Alan Wellman congratulated the chorus on this landmark achievement.

"I am very proud to be a part of this organization and pleased that I can help it continue the journey into the next 50 years," Wellman said.

Northwest Choral Society 2015-16 season concludes with a concert performance titled "Why We Sing" June 4 at the Southminster Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights.

Alumni of Northwest Chorus Society who wish to participate in the June 4 celebration are encouraged to contact Penny Perles at nwchoralsociety@gmail.com for information.
