BYU Startup Launches 'Life Changing' Period Product on Target.com

The Girls Company is announcing the launch of their best-selling product on June 6th, 2021 with Target.com.

When company founders Zoia Ali, Abby Warner, and Taimi Kennerley stepped into their first entrepreneurship class at Brigham Young University, they realized they represented half of the women in the entrepreneurship program. By chance, the three of them were placed into a random group together and were soon coined, "The Girls" by their classmates. The goal in the class was to solve a pain. With a shared passion for women's health, they decided to focus their class project on finding a solution to one of the many pains facing women.

The Girls spent hours researching, interviewing and surveying and became obsessed with women's health and how it had been treated over time, especially when it came to period cramps. They were shocked to see the lack of options and found that women have been using the same products for too long. Warner remarked, "We had no idea that cramp pain was so prevalent and yet so underserved. Women have been suffering in silence and nobody has done anything about it!"

The Girls found this unacceptable. So they invented a solution to help--The Band. The Band is an ultra-thin portable band that can be worn underneath clothing without being seen. It is heated with small oxygen activated pouches. The combination of the heat and the slight pressure from The Band help to alleviate period cramps. The Girls officially launched their product in January 2020. They're often told how their product allows people to live their lives again, with one customer saying " This Band is life-changing, seriously, it's a game-changer."

In addition to creating a product that alleviates physical pain for people, The Girls strive to remove the stigma surrounding periods. Through research and personal experience, they found that people feel alone on their periods. It's typically a conversation that has been considered more taboo than acceptable. "Opening conversations regarding menstruation is very important to us. I remember starting my period and feeling so much shame about my own body and this new experience. I'd imagine my whole period experience while I was young would have been so different and more positive if I would have known how many people were going through similar things like me." said Kennerley.

The mission at The Girls Company is to revolutionize the way people address women's health.

The Girls are excited for their product launch with Target and what it could mean for the future of their company. Ali said, "We are excited to be working with a retailer (Target) that values female-owned companies and female-centric products. We can't wait to get our product to more people seeking relief."

The Girls will launch their product on Target.com June 6th, 2021. You can find The Girls on Instagram @thegirls_co, or on their website at www.thegirlsco.com.
