Could Putin be Trump's only friend?
A few days ago, my dear friend Elizabeth, who is of Mexican heritage but a U.S. citizen, confided in me that she was terribly afraid that Donald Trump would become president, thereby turning this country into a police state.
"Reminds me of Hitler," she said.
Scary times ahead. It's a foreboding that comes face to face with extreme arrogance and an ego second to none. It's disheartening to hear Trump's plebian rhetoric about his follow Republicans, his offensive language, astounding those of us grown-ups who looked forward to the oratory excellence of past candidates during their debates and all through their campaigns.
Aside from Trump's personal appearances, there is another, more important detail that all of us should be concerned with, and that is his insults to foreign leaders that he flings around like confetti. When a candidate offends a foreign leader to the point where he has to use the F-word, what kind of diplomacy can follow?
At this point, England does not want Trump's footprint on their soil. Mexico has similar feelings, and what about China and Japan -- they've also been highly insulted.
Looking to the future, it's difficult to see a seashore ahead. It seems Putin might turn out to be Trump's only friend. What might our future be then?
