Schneider tours affordable housing community in Glenview

Congressman Brad Schneider on Tuesday toured Axley Place, a private project-based voucher community located in Glenview, and met with facility staff, affordable housing advocates and other local elected officials to discuss affordable housing in the 10th District.

"Housing is the single largest expense for most American families, affecting so many aspects of our lives: the jobs you can get, the schools your children can attend and the kinds of communities you can live in. Affordable housing units like Axley Place in Glenview ensure that families can afford to live in good communities like the 10th District. I will continue to work alongside local organizations like the Illinois Housing Council to champion affordable housing at the federal level," Schneider said.

Schneider was joined on the tour by state Senators Julie Morrison and Laura Fine, former state Rep. Elaine Nekritz, and representatives from the Illinois Housing Council, the Housing Opportunity Development Council and Community Partners for Affordable Housing.

Schneider is also a cosponsor of HR 2573, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act. This bill would also modify and expand the LIHTC by taking additional steps to target extremely low-income households.

Schneider helped pass the Build Back Better Act in the House, which represents the largest federal investment in affordable housing in history. Build Back Better invests $150 billion in provisions for affordable housing, most notably in expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit which would result in the creation of over 800,000 additional affordable homes. BBB also provides $24 billion for housing vouchers, which would reduce housing instability for 12,800 households in Illinois alone.
