Eli Skinner N.S.D.A.R. Chapter learns the History of Taps
On Sunday November 13, a Combined Meeting with the Eli Skinner N.S.D.A.R. Chapter, the Aaron Miner C.A.R. Society and the American Bicentennial SAR Chapter, were treated to a presentation by Mary Arvidson who is a militray buggler retired from service and am member of the Eli Skinner N.S.D.A.R. Chapter on the History of Taps. Mary explained how Taps has evolved and why it is played at dusk, flag ceremonies and at military funeral by the United Stated Armed Forces. Mary went on to give to the significance of these lyrics: Day is done, gone the sun; from the lake,from the hills,from the sky; All is Well, Safety rest. God is nigh. Mary went on to play Taps on her turmpet.
