Mount Prospect students report hearing gunshots
Four Mount Prospect middle school students were waiting for the school bus Wednesday morning when they heard what sounded like multiple gunshots being fired from a passing car, police said.
The students, who attend Lincoln Middle School, were waiting for the 7:25 a.m. bus Wednesday at Wille and Henry streets when a driver passed while holding what's suspected to be a handgun out the window, according to a news release. No injuries were reported.
The students said they heard multiple popping noises coming from the tan, four-door sedan before it passed them and described the driver as a white woman in her late teens or early 20s, with glasses and long dark hair, officials said. After passing the students, the driver went east on Henry Street toward Main Street, the new release said.
Mount Prospect police were alerted of the incident by Lincoln Middle School and responded to the area about 8 a.m. but were unable to find shell casings, bullet fragments or any other evidence that would explain the popping noises, according to the news release.
Officers went door to door talking to neighbors but were unable to locate a vehicle, video surveillance or witnesses of the incident.
Police say they have increased surveillance in the area and encourage anyone who might be able to assist in identifying the driver or vehicle to call (847) 870-5654
