St. Mary's altar servers honored for service to parish
On Friday, Feb. 5, the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council treated more than 30 altar servers to a movie and pizza party at the parish ministry center.
Father John McNamara visited with all the altar servers and thanked each of them for their service to the parish.
This is an annual event that started more than 20 years ago by two members of St. Mary's Parish, Rocco Favia and Wayne Donahue, who treated the altar servers to breakfast as a way of recognizing their service to the parish.
When the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666 was formed in November 1995, Rocco and Wayne became charter members of the newly formed council.
The council voted to continue the tradition and it now remains one of the annual activities of the Knights, to recognize the service of our youth to the parish.
The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.8 million members in over 14,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 70 million volunteer hours and $167 million in charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, families and youth.
