Prepare for a 'Superpowered Summer' at Huntley library

The Huntley Area Public Library is energizing the community with a "Superpowered Summer," filled with programs and events.

The Summer Reading Adventure, "Reading is My Superpower," begins Wednesday, June 7. It encourages improvement of literacy for babies, children, teens and adults.

The first big program of the summer will be Thursday, June 8, when the Jesse White Tumblers will showcase their superpowered, high-flying acrobatics beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Marlowe Middle School, 9625 Haligus Road in Lake in the Hills. Doors open at 6 p.m. for this free program.

"Superpowered Summer" library services include access to downloadable and streaming ebooks, eaudiobooks, digital magazines, music, movies and television. Online residents can learn a language, receive free tutoring, work with an online job coach, learn software, and attend an online story time.

Many "Superpowered Summer" programs and events are taking place at the library from June through August, including "Mr. Freeze Science," "Tween Paint n' Sip" sessions, "The History of Superheroes," teen art programs, and a visit from the critters at Big Run Wolf Ranch.

"Educational and recreational programs are offered to engage students during the summer months," stated library director Frank Novak. "Access to library programs and online resources allow us to showcase the best of what the library has to offer to the community."

The Huntley Area Pulbic Library is at 11000 Ruth Road, Huntley. For more information about library programs or to register for an event, visit www.huntleylibrary.org or call (847) 669-5386 and press 3.
