What began as a 16-member string ensemble in the spring of 1989 has developed into four orchestras featuring over 200 student musicians from Chicago's northwest suburbs. The mission of the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra is to promote the continuing growth of the cultural arts in the community by providing area students with an outlet to perform challenging ensemble and orchestral music, and by presenting youth orchestra performances to the community and outlying areas through concerts, recordings and tours.

The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra is a program of the Village of Schaumburg through the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, located at 201 Schaumburg Ct., Schaumburg, IL. For more information about the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts and its programs, visit www.prariecenter.org.
