Streets of Woodfield supports first responders, food pantries
Amid the increased need people are experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Streets of Woodfield shopping center in Schaumburg has donated $25,000 to both the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Lakeview Pantry.
The shopping center also showed support for its restaurant tenants and the village's first responders by providing lunches for the Schaumburg police and fire departments earlier this month.
The donations to the regional food pantries were coordinated by Streets of Woodfield's parent company, ShopCore Properties, and its philanthropic partnership with LivCor called the CoreGiving Foundation.
Together, the donations should provide about 275,000 meals.
"It's so important to show up for our communities, now more than ever, and it's imperative that we act with empathy and do all we can to take care of one another," said Rishika Mahtani, marketing manager of ShopCore Properties.
"The economic shock wave this pandemic is sending through our community is leaving many families with little access to food and groceries."
The Greater Chicago Food Depository distributes a daily average of 200,000 pounds of food to people in need across Chicago and Cook County. Lakeview Pantry provides food and access to social services for children, seniors and people experiencing homelessness on the North Side of Chicago.
CoreGiving is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has raised more than $455,000 nationwide to address the needs being caused by the pandemic.
