70-year-old Wauconda man charged with providing cocaine that led to fatal overdose
A 70-year-old Wauconda man faces a homicide charge in connection with a fatal overdose last year in McHenry County, authorities said.
David W. Johnson appeared in court Saturday on charges of drug-induced homicide and delivery of a controlled substance, according to the McHenry County state’s attorney’s office. He was ordered detained in the McHenry County jail while awaiting trial, officials said.
According to prosecutors, the overdose victim died Dec. 19, 2025, after ingesting cocaine he obtained from Johnson two days earlier. A toxicology report determined that the man died of cocaine toxicity, prosecutors said.
An examination of the man’s cellphone records by McHenry County sheriff’s detectives uncovered evidence identifying Johnson as the person who allegedly supplied the cocaine, according to prosecutors.
Johnson is scheduled to return to court Nov. 4. If convicted of drug-induced homicide, he faces six to 30 years in prison.
