4 accused of burglarizing Addison gambling business in smash-and-grab
Four Chicago men have been accused of breaking into an Addison business and stealing more than $13,000 from video gambling machines.
Keonte Adams, 20, of the 9700 block of Beverly Avenue; Dajuan Johnson, 24, of the 4000 block of West Potomac Avenue; Kyronte McCondichie, 20, of the 9700 block of Beverly Avenue; and Daryl Nesbit, 19, of the 8400 block of South Drexel Avenue, are charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a weapon — machine gun, burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, criminal damage to property and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
On Thursday, Addison police and other DuPage County law enforcement agencies were watching gambling businesses, in response to a rash of burglaries in DuPage and throughout the Chicago area, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Around 4:32 a.m., officers said they saw a Dodge Durango and a BMW, both reported as stolen, driving west on Lake Street from Bruce Avenue. The vehicles backed into parking spots at Maria’s Gaming Cafe, 40 E. Lake St.
Authorities say five people, of whom four were armed, broke into Maria’s using sledgehammers and a crow bar. They smashed the gambling machines and took the cash boxes, according to the news release.
As they drove off, the BMW drove over tire-deflating spike strips. Three people got out and entered the Durango.
Authorities say the Durango fled police at speeds over 100 mph. They drove through Elmhurst and Villa Park, got onto I-290, and drove to Bellwood, where the Durango was stopped by spike strips.
The occupants ran off, across I-290. Authorities say three guns fell out of the Durango.
Authorities say there was a loaded Glock 22 with a device that converted it to a fully automatic firearm; a loaded Glock 17C; a loaded Zastava AK rifle; a sledgehammer; a crowbar; and a cash box.
There also were two handguns in the BMW and a sledgehammer, according to the news release.
The four men are being detained pretrial. Their next court appearance is Nov. 23.
