Fire leaves Vernon Hills home uninhabitable

A fire of undetermined cause Friday resulted in extensive damage and left a Vernon Hills home uninhabitable, according to the Countryside Fire Protection District.

Firefighters responded about 9 p.m. to a home on the 100 block of South Deerpath Drive and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage and second floor, the district reported in a news release.

The residents weren’t home at the time and no pets were kept, the release said.

The fire was extinguished in about 45 minutes but the home sustained heavy damage, district officials reported.

No other homes were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated but was believed to have originated from the garage, according to the release.

The district in a safety message advised people to always be aware of what you are charging and unplug any unnecessary battery chargers before leaving home.
