Lake Park Film Appreciation Society event to showcase two German-themed classics
The Lake Park High School Film Appreciation Society is hosting a special German-themed double feature on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Organized in collaboration with the Lake Park German Exchange Program, this free community event will showcase two German-themed cinematic classics at the West Campus auditorium, 500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Roselle.
It will begin at 3:30 p.m. with the fast-paced, experimental German thriller “Run Lola Run” (1998) with Franka Potente in her international breakthrough role, which led to starring in the “Bourne” movies.
It will be followed at 6 p.m. by the iconic British film noir “The Third Man” (1949), set in post-World War II Vienna. Directed by Carol Reed with a screenplay by Graham Greene, it stars Orson Welles, Joseph Cotton, Trevor Howard and Alida Valli.
Beyond the screenings, community film buffs are invited to stay for a panel discussion diving into the historical background, stylistic achievements and cultural significance of both films. Attendees will have the chance to win German-themed prizes during a movie trivia segment.
The film series continues on Nov. 4 with a Halloween-themed film. The next themes will be: “Newman for the Holidays” on Dec. 2, “Trains in Hollywood” on Jan. 13, “WGN Family Classics” on Feb. 3 and “Disaster Strikes” on March 24.
