No charges yet in Oak Brook fatal shooting; 3 released from custody

Oak Brook police announced Friday that no charges have been filed in the killing of a Dolton man Wednesday at Oakbrook Center mall.

Authorities also released three people who had been detained after the shooting.

Police said they worked with the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office to review all available evidence and determine “an appropriate course of action,” according to a news release. They said the investigation remains ongoing.

The shooting happened around noon in the parking lot near the L.L. Bean store.

Gunfire erupted during a fight between two groups of people, officials said.

When police officers arrived, they found Justin Hill, 28, of Dolton, had been fatally shot.

A woman also was injured. She remains in the hospital.

The three people drove away but were stopped shortly thereafter in Oakbrook Terrace.
