Shooting at Oakbrook Center leaves one dead, one injured
A shooting Wednesday at Oakbrook Center mall in Oak Brook left a man dead and a woman injured, authorities said.
The shooting happened about noon in a parking lot near the L.L. Bean store, Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis said.
The gunfire followed an altercation between five people who were in two vehicles, Strockis said.
The man was dead when police arrived. The woman was hospitalized Wednesday, but Strockis did not know her condition.
After the shooting, the three others involved in the confrontation drove off, but were pulled over by police in neighboring Oakbrook Terrace and were in custody while being questioned, Strockis said.
Strockis said he didn’t have information about a motive and declined to disclose the ages, sexes and hometowns of the people involved. The victim was not named, as police are still notifying his relatives.
He credited automated license plate reading cameras with helping investigators quickly track down the three people in custody.
Strockis said more information will be given at a press conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
It is the second shooting at the mall in recent years.
In December 2021, the mall was locked down after gunfire erupted as three men argued while in line at a pretzel shop. Five people were shot, and a woman broke her ankle while fleeing the area.
