Woodstock man, 23, killed in single-vehicle crash near Crystal Lake
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single-vehicle crash near Crystal Lake that killed a 23-year-old Woodstock man early Sunday.
Members of the sheriff’s office and the Crystal Lake Fire Protection District were called at about 2:19 a.m. to the site of the crash at the intersection of Butternut and Chestnut drives in Dorr Township.
A preliminary investigation indicated that as the 2024 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Butternut Drive it failed to negotiate a turn, according to the sheriff’s office. The pickup truck left the road to the south and traveled across Chestnut Drive before striking several trees, officials said.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
Authorities said speed, weather conditions and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office’s Major Traffic Case Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
