3 juvenile girls facing felony charges after threatening an Addison school

Three juvenile girls are facing felony charges after authorities say they threatened a school shooting at Indian Trail Junior High School in Addison.

The girls, a 14-year-old from Lombard and two 12-year-olds from Addison, appeared in court separately over the last week. Officials said all three have been placed on home detention with electronic monitoring.

The two 12-year-olds were each charged with two felony counts of disorderly conduct-transmit threat to school building. The 14-year-old is facing one count of the same charge.

Authorities say that on Aug. 11, the two Addison girls created and shared with each other a video depicting themselves as cartoon figures “walking around a school, taking out rifles, shooting students and then killing themselves.”

Officials allege the video contained a handwritten map showing the interior layout of Indian Trail Junior High School with the lunchroom, office, nurse and bathroom labeled. It depicted the juveniles shooting in the hallway at drawn figures with the sounds of gunshots and screams, authorities said.

According to a petition that prosecutors filed against the Lombard girl, it’s alleged that on Aug. 29 she “transmitted a threat of violence, death or bodily harm directed at persons at Indian Trail Junior High School” via Snapchat and WhatsApp to one of the Addison girls, “asking her about security measures at Indian Trail Junior High School.”

Prosecutors say the Lombard girl’s message read, “when she turned 15 she would come to Indian Trail Junior High School and conduct a school shooting.”

Authorities were alerted after two students at one of the Addison girl’s schools contacted a school resource officer, officials said.

The Lombard girl’s next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 25. One of the Addison juveniles will appear in court on Oct. 1 and the other on Oct. 23.
