Schaumburg Boomers identify a victory as regular season nears end

The Schaumburg Boomers debuted their alternate identity as the Chicago Burbs and opened the final home weekend of the regular season with a 7-4 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday night at Wintrust Field.

Schaumburg starter Buddie Pindel sat down the first seven Gateway batters in the game. The visitors finally broke through in the fourth, stringing together three consecutive hits to open a 1-0 lead. Chase Dawson singled home a pair in the bottom of the inning to put Schaumburg ahead 2-1. Gateway tied the game in the fifth.

Kyle Fitzgerald tallied an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the inning to score Alec Craig and put the Burbs back in front. Dawson followed with a two-run triple, his first triple of the year, making the score 5-2. After Gateway pulled within 5-3, the Burbs scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Craig singled home a run and Anthony Calarco lifted a sacrifice fly.
