Authorities: Glendale Heights man hit 3 police cars during high-speed chase while driving drunk

A Glendale Heights man faces charges alleging he fled from police while driving drunk Sunday, crashing into several squad cars during the pursuit.

Luis Robles Carrillo, 28, of the 0-100 block of Armitage Avenue, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol; aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer; criminal damage to state-supported property; and driving while license suspended — fourth to ninth offense, authorities said Tuesday.

All the charges all felonies, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Carillo also faces misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, including speeding, disobeying a stop sign and improper lane use.

According to prosecutors, an Addison police officer patrolling a parking lot on the 100 block of West Lake Street at 12:46 a.m. Sunday was flagged down by several people pointing out a silver GMC Canyon.

Officers tried to stop the Canyon, but it cut across parking spaces in the lot. When an officer tried to block it with his squad car, the driver put it in reverse and hit a squad car, authorities said.

Police say the pickup truck then drove south on Lincoln Avenue, went through a stop sign and then turned west on Lake Street, driving more than 90 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The driver — later identified by police as Carillo — was tracked to his home, where he again fled, leading police on a pursuit in which additional patrol vehicles were struck before he was captured, prosecutors said.

One police officer sought medical care for shoulder pain incurred when the Canyon backed in to his squad, officials said.

On Monday, DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden ordered Carrillo to remain in custody while awaiting trial.

“The defendant showed a blatant and outrageous disregard for the law, orders of police, and the safety of the community,” Dieden wrote in his detention order. “His conduct, defiance, resolve to avoid apprehension, and attitude suggest an inability to comply with any conditions of release that could mitigate the danger he poses.”

Carrillo’s next court date is Aug. 24.
