Man accused of stealing car same day he was released from jail
An Aurora man has been accused of stealing a car less than 12 hours after being released from the DuPage County jail.
Marcel Seals, 21, of the 1200 block of Amaranth Drive, was charged Wednesday with felony theft and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and misdemeanor criminal trespass to a vehicle.
He was charged Tuesday with burglary and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, both felony-level charges. The charges allege he broke into a house’s garage and stole a car Aug. 8, 2025, in Naperville. Because those charges are not detainable offenses, he was released around 8:42 a.m. Wednesday from the DuPage County jail.
The new charges allege that around 8:19 p.m. Wednesday, Seals stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited outside a hair salon in the 28300 block of Davis Parkway in Warrenville. He was arrested several minutes later, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Prosecutors have filed a request to revoke his pretrial release on the first case. He is being held in DuPage County jail until that matter is decided Aug. 4.
