Man facing multiple felonies after battery near West Chicago Metra station

A man is facing multiple felony charges after another man was beaten Sunday near the West Chicago Metra train depot.

Steven Davis, 43, who authorities say is currently staying in West Chicago, was charged Tuesday with one felony count each of aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery — great bodily harm.

According to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, West Chicago police responded to a disturbance on a footpath near the bridge underneath Wilson Avenue near the Metra station at about 8:40 p.m. on July 19.

Police found Davis walking away from the underpass with blood on his hands and clothing, authorities said. Officers then found a man without a shirt who appeared to be unconscious in the rocks in the underpass of the bridge.

According to authorities, the man had been severely beaten with “blood on his face, his eyes shut and his back covered in scratch marks.”

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a broken rib, two fractured vertebrae and two black eyes.

Following an investigation, authorities say Davis yelled “get up, get up” during the beating as he kicked the victim while he was face down on the ground.

Davis was ordered to remain in jail pretrial. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 17.
