Gary UMC in Wheaton welcomes new organist

On Sunday, July 19, Robert Sacks will make his debut as organist at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton.

Sacks holds degrees in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory and Syracuse University, where his teachers included Walter Hautzig, Frederick Marvin and George Pappastavrou. Since 2016, he has been active as a church musician (organ and piano), first at Bethany Lutheran Church in Naperville (2016-19), the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Hinsdale (2019-22), Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Naperville (2022-24) and Community Presbyterian Church in Clarendon Hills (2024-26). He is also a chamber music performer with the Spectrum Trio (piano/violin/cello). He has previously held the positions of assistant music director and piano coordinator for the OPUS (Youth) Chamber Music Camp and served for 10 years as a camp chamber music coach and clinician. He operates a private piano teaching studio in Naperville and is also active as an accompanist. He and his wife, violinist Vivienne Venderley, perform together as the Spectrum Duo. In addition to his musical pursuits, Sacks is the clerk of Lisle Township and is treasurer for numerous political campaigns.

The church at 224 N. Main St. has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. Summer Sunday worship is at 9 a.m., including Kids’ Church and a 10 a.m. Special Blend fellowship hour.
