Fox River Valley DAR chapter celebrates America’s 250th with plaque dedication

Members of the Fox River Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a plaque dedication ceremony to honor and commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation.

“Our chapter is very proud to be able to dedicate this beautiful bronze plaque commemorating our nation’s Semiquincentennial,” said Barbara Targowski, chapter regent.

Members of the Fox River Valley Chapter, along with Crystal Lake Mayor Haig Haleblian, Rev. Eric Fistler of the First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, and other local dignitaries, along with residents of the Crystal Lake community gathered as they dedicated the plaque in McCormick Memorial Park, the site of Crystal Lake’s first town square.

The focus of the DAR’s commemorative efforts across the country are to celebrate the nation’s rich history and diversity of experiences by honoring all men and women who helped achieve American independence.

DAR members, inspired by the service of their Revolutionary War ancestors, are celebrating through acts of community service and hosting educational events.

“We appreciate all the work so many are doing to mark America250!,” said Ginnie Sebastian Storage, DAR President General. “As part of our organization’s mission to preserve and promote American history, education, and patriotism, DAR is proud to host so many events nationwide to honor and celebrate America.”

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is one of the largest patriotic women’s service organizations in the world. The DAR has close to 190,000 active members in approximately 3,000 chapters throughout the United States and in several foreign countries.

DAR members promote historic preservation, education and patriotism via commemorative events, scholarships and educational initiatives, citizenship programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service and more.
