TLC hosts ‘Together Tuesday’ volunteer events on June 23
The Land Conservancy of McHenry County invites the public to join in three volunteer events on “Together Tuesday” on June 23.
Together Tuesday is a day that encourages people to come together, strengthen their communities and find meaningful ways to support one another. Guests can choose whether to participate in one event, or all three.
Registration, which is free, is encouraged so participants can be notified in case of inclement weather. Walk-ins are welcome. Learn more and register at: conservemc.org.
Weeding Workday
10:30 a.m. to noon at Mariposa Meander Pollinator Garden in Woodstock; park on Fremont Street, next to Dick Tracy Way Park
Celebrate National Pollinator Week by caring for this public garden. The activities will include pulling weeds in the ground-level garden. Bring gardening gloves, trowel or handheld hoe, kneeling pad, water bottle, and a box if you’d like to bring plants home that you dig from trail, etc.
Volunteer Restoration Workday
9 a.m. to noon at Ryders Wood Park in Woodstock; park in main parking lot off Kimball Avenue (navigate to 713 E. Kimball Ave., Woodstock, IL). It is located next to the Mariposa Meander Pollinator Garden.
Depending on the weather, the activities may include:
• Cutting brush and small trees with gas/electric chain saws and/or loppers, and hauling cut brush and material to piles for burning
• Pulling weeds or collecting seeds (if ready)
• Spraying invasive plants
• Picking up garbage near parking lot
Bring leather gloves, sturdy shoes, loppers, safety glasses, hearing protection, water, bug spray. TLC will have these materials (minus footwear) to borrow if needed.
Extreme Makeover: TLC HQ Garden Edition
1:30-3 p.m. around the farmhouse at Hennen Conservation Area, 4622 Dean St., Woodstock.
The grounds around TLC’s office are in great need of a spruce up. Activities include: removing weedy trees and vines from around the house and buildings where TLC’s office is located.
Bring gardening gloves, loppers, hand clippers, and a water bottle
