Juneteenth celebration in Bloomingdale to honor freedom, culture and community

State Rep. Diane Blair-Sherlock invites residents, families, and community leaders to attend a special Juneteenth Celebration commemorating freedom, resilience, and the enduring contributions of Black Americans to our communities and nation.

The third annual celebration will bring together neighbors from across the district for an evening of fellowship, cultural recognition, music, food, and reflection on the significance of Juneteenth — the historic day marking the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

The Juneteenth Celebration will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Old Town Park, 111 Third St., Bloomingdale.

Speakers include the Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, DuPage County Board member Michael Childress, 18th Judicial Circuit Judge Chantelle Porter, Hanover Park Village Trustee Herb Porter, Roselle Public Library Board member Terrell Barnes, and DuPage NAACP President Tyronne Johnson.

There will be a musical performance by Evon Sams.

Vendors include: Bloomingdale Park District, DuPage NAACP, Laurie's Fleece Shoppe, Youth Care Creations, Lavi HQ, Wanna Pickle, Magda's Jewels, Emma Gipson's Victorian Boutique, Catalyst Counseling, Wellness Transformed, JAM Hot Sauce, Kelly Webb Bracelets, and The Balanced Professional.
