Alert neighbor evacuates owner from Glendale Heights house fire
No injuries were reported after a house fire Thursday in Glendale Heights.
Glenside Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Jeff Buccola said firefighters responded at about 5 p.m. to a single-family, two-story home on the 1800 block of Chippendale Lane after a neighbor called 911.
The owner was inside the home when the neighbor saw the exterior fire on the back and side of the house, Buccola said. The neighbor pounded on the door, and the owner and a cat were safely evacuated, he said.
Glenside fire personnel, with mutual aid from surrounding agencies, extinguished the fire in about 10 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Crews remained on the scene to ensure the fire had not spread to other parts of the house.
“It was out quick, but the damage was pretty substantial,” Buccola said.
Officials deemed the house to be uninhabitable, the deputy chief said.
The cause and damage estimates are yet to be determined. But a preliminary investigation found nothing suspicious about the fire’s origin, Buccola said.
