Wheaton’s St. Matthew UCC launches Pride Month with Chicago band The Many

St. Matthew United Church of Christ in Wheaton is kicking off Pride Month with a performance by The Many, a Chicago-based band, on Sunday, June 7.

Drawing on indie pop and gospel influences, The Many makes music to help give voice to faith and doubt, questions and fears, music that speaks to a non-violent God, a Jesus who is with us and for us, and to a Spirit that can’t be easily defined or controlled.

It’s music for a movement of resistance to hatred and division, for reconciliation and restoration, and music that always reminds us “we are on this earth to love.”

The Many create experiences in which they weave together music, words, images and liturgy into an engaging, participatory, transformational event.

They will be joining the 9:30 a.m. worship on Sunday, June 7, at the church, 1420 S. Gables Blvd. in Wheaton.

Later in the month, the church also is participating in “Pride in the Park” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Ave. in Wheaton. The picnic will include games, music, food and more.
