Boys tennis roundup: St. Francis, Naperville North, Huntley among sectional champions
Here’s a look at the boys tennis sectional results in DuPage County and Fox Valley.
Class 1A IMSA: St. Francis qualified two singles players and two doubles teams and ran away with the IMSA 1A sectional title with 25 points. Wheaton Academy was second with 11 and Timothy Christian placed third with 10.
In doubles, Teddy Marinc-Jackson Zeman of St. Francis defeated teammates Tommy Kacedan-Joey Los in the title match, 6-0, 6-2.
In the singles final, sophomore Hudson Tseng (17-0) of Timothy Christian outlasted Umar Bajwa of St. Francis in the championship match, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
Steve Remeluis of St. Francis won the third place match over Glenbard South's Andrew Benesch by default.
Luke Pennings-Jon Zeng defeated teammates Eligh Arrelano-Charlie Sias in the third-place match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
At Lakes: Lake Forest, with two singles qualifiers and two doubles qualifiers, dominated the field at Lakes. The Foresters scored 34 points while Wauconda and Grayslake North were tied for second with 14 points apiece. Cary-Grove was fourth with a score of 10.
North's Chris George-Aidan Munday was second in doubles action. Cary-Grove's duo of Finnegan Karlovsky-Halen Young placed fourth to qualify for the state meet.
Samay Patel was fourth in singles action.
At Prairie Ridge: Crystal Lake South, behind the doubles championship of Eryk Bucior-Zeke Boldman, claimed top team honors at the Prairie Ridge 1A sectional with 11 points. PR was second with nine points.
Bucior-Boldman (27-2) defeated Eli Loeding-Evan Seegart of Prairie Ridge 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in the title match. It is the third visit to the 1A state finals for Bucior-Boldman and first trip to the finals as doubles partners.
It is the first sectional title for the Gators since 2019.
Tim Jones defeated Nazar Muktar of South in the singles title match 6-1, 6-3.
Buktar Muktar was third in singles for the Gators.
At Benet: Naperville North placed first with 32 points followed by Metea Valley (25), Wheaton Warrenville South (15) and Benet Academy (14).
The Huskies were led by a first place effort in singles by Ritvik Korrapatti who defeated teammate Yanson Lew in the title match by medical default.
Rish Railkar-Ameya Tyagi of Metea Valley defeated Aayash Putambeka-Noah Eun of Naperville North in the title match 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Joshie Eun-Kush Shah of Naperville North was fourth.
Metea Valley's Kaushik-Nandura Henry Oyekami were third in doubles.
In singles Mike Hauenstein of Wheaton Warrenville South was third followed by Benet's Ian DiSanto who was fourth.
At Hinsdale Central: The defending Class 2A state champs claimed both the singles and doubles championships to win its own sectional with 33 points. Lyons Township was a distant second with 23 followed by Downers Grove South.
Sophomore David Waterman defeated Henry Dobbs of Richards 6-0, 6-1 to claim the singles title. The Red Devils duo of Kyle McCain-Nicholas Marringa moved to a perfect 21-0 mark with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lyons Shay Sweigard-Nolan Pavlik.
Logan Milton-Amir Khan was third in doubles while Barry Zhu placed fourth in singles.
Downers Grove South's Ryan Roumenov-Koko Dimitrakos placed fourth.
At South Elgin: Batavia claimed the top team prize with 22 points followed by St. Charles East (18), Geneva (16), Bartlett (15), St. Charles North (11) and Streamwood (10).
It was the first sectional title since 2022.
Streamwood junior Mathieu Veltkamp will take a 26-1 record to the state finals with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Teige Donehoo of St. Charles East in the championship match.
Geneva's Tyler Haney-Cole Hecker defeated Kush Adhvarya-Caleb Sharda of Batavia in the title match 6-4, 6-1. Yaseen Kahan-Aidan Gorski of St. Charles North was third a Ryan Cameron-Wesley Sternowski of St. Charles East placed fourth.
In singles action, Oskar Tredota of Bartlett was third and Kalvin Wolff of Batavia finished fourth.
"Coming into the season we wanted to take a run at the conference and sectional championships," said Batavia coach Brad Nelson. “We had to what we had to do as a team. Everybody won first round matches and that always helps. We had a senior heavy team with five of six on the sectional team are seniors and our roster was 15 of 18 seniors.”
At Waubonsie Valley: Neuqua Valley scored 28 points to claim the Waubonsie Valley sectional. The host Warriors were second with 21.
The chanpions got second place efforts from Keshav Menon (two singles) and Akhil Matham-Alp Tunar (two doubles). Shaurya Kanhardi (number four singles) amd Boris Jayden Chiou (number four doubles) were fourth. Waubonsie Valley's Revanth Korthapalli placed first at No. 1 doubles and Gautam Mani was third in singles.
At Willowbrook: Freshman Jack Creswell outlasted Glenbard East's Finn Talbott in the title match, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Creswell's effort helped Glenbard West win the Willowbrook sectional with 28 points.
“It was a total team effort," said Hilltoppers coach Tad Keely. ”Jack is Mr. Dependable. He continues to improve heading into he state meet.“
Glenbard East was second with 20 points followed by York (18), Glenbard North (12), Wheaton North (10) and Willowbrook (6). Konstanin Van Mark was third in singles while the doubles team of Nick Harding and Charles McDonald were third.
Henry Jonas-Sam Hill of Wheaton North won the doubles championship defeating Andrew Murkowski of Glenbard North Liam Ponton was fourth in singles for York while Ponton's teammates Kieran Goldstein-Jason DeMott were fourth.
At Rockford Guilford: Huntley claimed top honors with 36 points. Huntley’s William Geske took top honors in singles while Eashan Cheruki-Adam Stec were second in doubles and Rithwik Depala was fourth in singles. Tanash Gulatti-Vivek Yandamari were first in doubles.
