Ex-volleyball coach accused of sexually assaulting teen

An Elburn man has been accused of sexually assaulting a girl he coached at an Elgin volleyball club a quarter century ago.

Arthur D. Weathers, 54, of the 1100 block of Wise Street, was arrested Tuesday. Kane County prosecutors asked to have him detained pretrial, but a judge refused and ordered Weathers be released pretrial on unspecified conditions, according to a news release from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

He is charged with 11 counts of criminal sexual assault and 14 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, all felonies.

The news release stated that prosecutors believe that between 1999 and 2001, Weathers abused and assaulted a minor over whom he held a position of authority. He was an assistant coach and a head coach at First Kill volleyball club of Elgin.

The victim was 16 at the time.

She reported the allegations to law enforcement in August 2025.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who has additional information about Weathers to call investigators at (630) 444-1103.

The news release said Weathers is a forensic chemist for the Illinois State Police’s Division of Forensic Services, where he has worked since 1998.

His next court date is July 15.
