Pedestrian struck, seriously injured in crosswalk near Mount Prospect park
A 42-year-old man was seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle while walking in a pedestrian crosswalk near a Mount Prospect park Saturday night.
The crash occurred about 8:53 p.m. on Central Road near Weller Lane and Melas Park, authorities said.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed the man was walking northbound in the pedestrian crossing with yellow rapid flashing beacons activated when he was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Central Road.
The injured man was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old man, remained on the scene, according to police, who said the roadway was closed for about five hours while the investigated the scene.
No citations were issued, but the crash remains under investigation, police said.
