U-Haul driver involved in back-to-back Schaumburg crashes charged with aggravated DUI

A U-Haul cargo van driver involved in a second crash after apparently fleeing the scene of another in Schaumburg Wednesday has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

Lataurus Morris, 24, of Maywood, has three previous DUIs, Schaumburg Police Commander Christy Lindhurst said.

More charges are anticipated in the coming days as the investigation continues, authorities said.

Following his single charge to date for the Schaumburg crashes, Morris was transported to DuPage County on three warrants for failing to appear in court.

His Cook County detention hearing is set for Monday morning at the courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

Schaumburg officers first responded to the scene of a crash between the Ram cargo van Morris was driving and a Mercedes minivan at 10:27 a.m. Wednesday.

After the cargo van fled the scene, cameras of the police department’s Real Time Information Center spotted the vehicle with heavy front-end damage on northbound Roselle Road.

Morris is accused of fleeing from the officers who tried to stop his vehicle at Higgins and Roselle roads. He reportedly continued traveling north on Roselle before colliding with a small sedan at the intersection of Golf Road.

Morris and his female passenger weren’t injured in either crash. The passenger was released when Morris was arrested.

A female passenger of the sedan in the second crash was hospitalized with minor injuries. There were no other injuries in either collision, police said.
