Wheaton-Glen Ellyn AAUW taking donations for used book sale
The AAUW Wheaton-Glen Ellyn Branch, founded in 1956, is celebrating its 70th anniversary. It is the largest branch in Illinois with over 125 members. Since its inception, the members have promoted the national AAUW mission of equity and education for women and girls.
In 1962, the AAUW held its first fundraising book sale on a sidewalk in Wheaton. It yielded a profit of $350. In 1968 a Glen Ellyn Sidewalk book sale was added. From this humble beginning, AAUW has held a total of 63 used book sales.
Since 2022, each book sale has featured over 11,000 books and yielded net profits frequently exceeding $12,500.
Over its 70-year history, AAUW has contributed over $400,000 to endowment fundings supporting advanced degrees, postdoctoral research projects, local scholarships and other AAUW mission-based projects.
