Wheaton to launch celebration of America’s 250th birthday

Wheaton will salute America’s 250th birthday with a full lineup of events, starting with a ceremonial tree planting this month.

Wheaton will mark the nation’s semiquincentennial — 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence — by planting an American Liberty Elm on the south side of city hall along Wesley Street.

The gathering will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, officially launching Wheaton’s America 250 events. The city has also commissioned a new downtown mural and will dish out an ice cream social at the Wheaton Municipal Band's July 9 concert as part of the festivities.
